Spring Term 2019
Once again, we have a busy term ahead of us. Our topic for the Spring Term is ‘Diggin’ It’ and year 5 will focus on the Ancient Greeks as our topic work, while after the half term break, we shall be studying Mayan Civilisation. Our English work will focus on Myths and Legends and non-chronological reports and we shall also be looking at some narrative poetry. In Science, we shall be learning about different types of chemical changes and separating mixtures. Please see the website for details of other subjects we shall be covering during the Spring Term.
As you know, our school homework policy has changed, so tasks are now optional. I would encourage you, however, to complete some of the suggested activities. The completed work should be returned on the dates given on the sheet. However, the most important aspects of the homework are times table and spelling practice. Times tables may be learned and rehearsed at https://ttrockstars.com for which each child has their own login. This is on a sticky label inside the homework folders. Children also have access to Mathletics and their login for this site is at the back of their reading records. Spelling rules that we are working on in class may be practised using Spelling Frame at https://spellingframe.co.uk/. The rules being taught each week are shown on the homework sheet.
PE lessons will be on Friday afternoons and will be conducted by a qualified sports coach. Please make sure that your child has suitable kit including sports shoes suitable for outdoor use, navy blue joggers and a hoodie in case it is cold. Just to remind you that our school PE kit consists of navy blue shorts and a plain white t shirt. All students should be able to remove their own earrings for these sessions. Please could you also make sure that long hair is tied back and that socks are provided for the girls when they wear tights?
I am looking forward to working with you and your child again this term. If you have any concerns or queries, please do not hesitate to come and see me.
