At Parsons Heath the annual grant we receive is £17,785 for 2019 to 2020. This money is being used to:
The government has provided additional funding to primary schools to improve the provision of Physical Education (PE) and sport in primary schools. The funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport and is ring-fenced. Therefore, it can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
We at Parsons Heath Primary School want to ensure that this money is used to enable our pupils to have increased opportunities to participate in sport, to attain well and to reach their full potential.
What impact it has had
The quality of teaching by Class Teachers and Teaching Assistants of PE has improved as a result of lessons modelled by specialist Sports Instructors.
Children from Foundation through to Year 6 have weekly PE and Sport sessions provided by specialist Sports Instructors during the year.
The number of children in Key Stage 1 taking part in extra-curricular sport has increased as a result of specialist teacher coaching.
As teacher’s confidence in teaching PE has risen, they have started to run a wider range of sports clubs – including netball for 2020.
Increase in inter-school competitions (football)

What we have used it for
At Parsons Heath Primary School, the Sports Premium has funded a number of activities and interventions to support pupil progress and attainment in PE and Sport.
Employment of specialist Sports Instructors to teach high quality PE lessons during teachers’ PPA – these instructors model high quality lessons in PE and Sport in order to provide training for teachers and teaching assistants.
Employment of specialist Sports Instructors to teach high quality after school sessions (children do not have to pay for these sessions as they are funded by Sports Premium)
Release time for PE lead and relevant training courses
We intend to:
continue specialist provision of PE and Sport sessions during teachers’ PPA sessions;
employ specialist instructors to run after school clubs;
continue to pay for clubs so that all children have the opportunity to participate
Look at ways of providing opportunities for children to engage in a wider range of sports
